Applications are now open for the Central Asian IPROMO Summer School “Glaciers: Understanding, Preservation and Adaptation to Climate Change”, organized by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the Mountain Partnership hosted by Food and Agriculture Organization, and the University of Central Asia.

IPROMO is an annual two-week programme of the FAO Mountain Partnership dedicated to the sustainable development of mountain regions and has been implemented for more than 20 years. Over 400 professionals from around the world have completed the programme to date. The Central Asian module will also contribute to the UN Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences (2025–2034). The event will take place from 23 June to 7 July 2026 at the UCA campus in Naryn, Kyrgyzstan.

Course objectives:

- strengthening technical and institutional capacities in glacier preservation and sustainable mountain development;

- developing joint adaptation strategies, monitoring systems, and risk management approaches related to glacier loss;

- promoting regional dialogue on transboundary water use, climate diplomacy, and conflict prevention.

The programme consists of three modules:

- Sustainable Mountain Development and International Policy Frameworks;

- Glacier Preservation and Sustainable Water Resource Management;

- Cooperation and Dialogue: Transboundary Governance, Climate Diplomacy, and Conflict Prevention.

In addition to lectures and seminars, participants will take part in two field expeditions and collaborative work on a final glacier preservation project. The course will be conducted in English. Upon completion, graduates will join the global IPROMO Alumni Network. Travel, accommodation, and meals will be covered by the organizers.

Participant requirements:

- excellent command of English;

- higher education in a scientific or technical field;

- relevant professional experience;

- strong adaptability to mountainous conditions.
