On 17 July 2025, at the UN Headquarters in New York, a session was held within the framework of the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development on the theme: “Advancing the Five Years of Action: Mountains as a Key to Accelerating the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda.” This side event was organized by Kyrgyzstan with the support of the Mountain Partnership Secretariat, the FAO Office in New York, and the Permanent Missions of Andorra, Nepal, and Italy.

During the event, Dinara Kemelova, Special Representative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic on the Mountain Agenda, presented the implementation of the Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions, as well as Kyrgyzstan’s mountain initiatives advanced within the United Nations. Ms. Kemelova also shared the outcomes of the International Conference “Global Mountain Dialogue for Sustainable Development” (24–25 April 2025, Bishkek), highlighting the initiatives of the President of Kyrgyzstan, H.E. Mr. Sadyr Zhaparov. This include the creation of a broad coalition of mountain countries, the establishment of a UN-Mountain coordination mechanism, and a call for broad cooperation in the active implementation of the Mountain Five Years of Action through events in 2026–2027, including the Second Global Mountain Summit “Bishkek+25” (2027, Bishkek).

In her opening remarks, Aida Kasymalieva, Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan to the United Nations, called on the international community to join efforts in protecting mountain ecosystems, adapting to climate change, and ensuring a sustainable future for mountain regions.

The event brought together representatives of mountain countries, UN agencies such as FAO, UNDP, UNEP, as well as LLDCs, WMO, experts and other stakeholders. Speakers emphasized the importance of advancing projects to protect mountain ecosystems, the interests of mountain communities, and expressed support for Kyrgyzstan’s initiatives.
